Activities in and around the Mar Menor
The exceptional year-round climate (320 days of sun) is ideal for discovering this beautiful region of Spain. With a diversity of stunning landscapes and natural spaces, the region of Murcia offers endless possibilities for outdoor pursuits and many different sports and activities.

- All along the coast and in the inland areas, you will find many interesting walking routes.

- Cyclists can take advantage of the warm climate and extensive network of roads and trails for both mountain and road biking.

- Other popular activities in the area include horse riding, rock climbing and diving.

- Two Seas: bordered by the blue Mediterranean, the coast of the region of Murcia boasts endless sandy beaches and spectacular scenery. And then there is the Mar Menor, Europe's largest saltwater lagoon, a delight for water sports enthusiasts.

Watersports

Covering an area of some 180 square kilometres, the Mar Menor is Europe's largest saltwater lagoon, surrounded by golden sandy beaches. This unique setting has everything you need for water sports: great weather, a constant breeze, warm, calm and shallow waters (less than seven metres at the deepest point)... all of which explain why it is considered one of Europe's best watersport destinations.

Sailing & Wind Surfing

If you would like to learn to sail while on holiday there are two main sailing schools in the area: Pro-Vela in Los Alcazares or Aqua Adicta in Mar de Cristal. Both offer rental and tuition and can be booked via the Independent Activity Centre at La Manga Club (www.abclamanga.com).

Pro-Vela is the only RYA recognised dinghy sailing school on the Mar Menor. Pro-Vela offers dinghy rental and tuition (beginner to advanced) and has a wide selection of craft, including Laser SB3 keelboats, Laser, Laser Bahia and RS QBa dinghies and the high performance Bladerider. Check the details at www.pro-vela.com.

Aqua Adicta is based in Mar de Cristal, only a 10 minute drive from La Manga Club. They offer dinghy, windsurf and kayak rental, dinghy and windsurf tuition, and the very popular kayak excursions on the Mar Menor. The range of craft includes Laser Pico, Topper Topaz, and the Spanish Pastenaca. Find out more at www.aqua-adicta.co.uk.

Jet Skiing

At the nearby La Manga Strip you can enjoy jet skiing, wake boarding, water skiing and banana and donut rides. Bookings can be made at the Independent Activity Centre at La Manga Club.

Scuba-diving and Snorkelling

The Islas Hormigas is one of the Mediterranean's best preserved and most varied marine reserves, located just off the coast near Cabo de Palos. The exceptional beauty and conservation of the depths here has earned it a reputation as one of the Mediterranean's best dive sites.

The clear waters of the Mar Menor lagoon and the variety of its species make it an excellent place for snorkelling.

Whether you are a beginner or a qualified diver, you can experience diving in the Mediterranean in the safe hands of Adventure Divers. Adventure Divers is a small PADI dive centre based on La Manga Club offering shore, boat and wreck dives. Children only have to be 8 years old to participate in Bubblemakers - a safety first introduction to diving. For children less than 8 years old, guided snorkelling tours are available. For further information contact www.abclamanga.com or www.adventuredivers-spain.com.

Horse Riding

Riding lessons and excursions, and picnic beach rides are available through the Rancho de la Fuente stables, a short drive from the resort.

Hill Walking and Trekking

The hills surrounding the resorts offer some excellent walking country, with well-marked paths and many stunning views.
